On Thursday, March 20, 2025, the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2025 Business Excellence Awards Gala, presented by Cowan Insurance Group. The Waterloo Region business community, local dignitaries, and community ambassadors came together to honour the extraordinary contributions of more than 130 nominees across 14 categories.
Congratulations to The Grand Valley Construction Association for winning the Community Builder of the Year Award! This award is dedicated to the business that puts forth maximum time and effort into helping grow communities in order to achieve future success for all people living in Waterloo Region.
The Grand Valley Construction Association, established in 1974, has exemplified the true meaning of community betterment through their ongoing commitment to charitable work and positive change. With over 700 members representing a broad range of industries within construction, GVCA has been instrumental in shaping the future of the region and continues to be a driving force for change in the community.
Grand Valley Construction Association has actively supported numerous charitable and non-profit organizations. In 2024, they focused on initiatives that benefit at-risk groups, including youth, new Canadians, and those with barriers to employment. Through their Path to Employment Program, GVCA helped over 60% of participants—many of whom were previously on Ontario Works or ODSP—secure stable, full-time employment. This has provided sustainable careers and improved the lives of many individuals who are now contributing to the region’s growth.
In addition to its workforce development efforts, GVCA has been instrumental in addressing the region’s housing needs, leading the Build Now initiative in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity to create 10,000 attainable homes. Through this project, GVCA is helping to ensure that more people have access to affordable housing. They have also supported numerous community programs and charities, including their She Builds Scholarship for women in construction, the Jill of All Trades program, and being a key partner of local fundraising events, including Champions for Charity.
Grand Valley Construction Association is a key contributor in developing a thriving, inclusive, community.
