Today Wilfrid Laurier University made a significant change to its distinguished School of Business & Economics with a major endowment from one of Canada’s leading names in business and technology. From now on Laurier will be home to the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics in honour of BlackBerry (formerly Research in Motion) co-founder and technology visionary, Mike Lazaridis.
Lazaridis has donated $20 million to the School of Business & Economics in addition to a contribution of $15 million from the Ontario government that will be used to transform the program in many different ways, including the new Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises to go along with the new $103 million facility set to open in early 2016 that will house the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics.
Mr. Lazaridis’ generosity continues to positively impact the landscape of our local post-secondary institutions in so many ways. His donation and the investment from the Ontario government will transform how students learn to run and build modern technology businesses.
To find out more about the new Lazaridis Institute for the Management of Technology Enterprises being created and much more on the Wilfrid Laurier University website.
I’d like to thank Mike Lazaridis for his continued dedication to Waterloo Region and the world-class institutions that continue to make our community proud.
