Warning of Spammers Claiming to Be Associated with the Chamber

Spammers Email Scam Greater KW Chamber of Commerce Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber Email Scammer Beware Take Caution

Lester Holley, VP of Finance & Strategic Initiatives

It has come to our attention that foreign spammers outside of the Chamber’s control or influence have started targeting a portion of the Chamber’s members in a potential email scam with the following subject title and message:

“Another Referral Brought to you by the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce

Good day, My name is Mary Spencer. I intend to bequeath a huge sum of money to you for charity purposes. This is because I have a terminal ailment and have few weeks to live. You can contact my Lawyer for more information: Michael Shaad shaadsolicitors@yandex.com Stay blessed, Mary Spencer”

This is SPAM. Delete immediately.

The Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce has absolutely no ties to these messages at all. The yandex.com email address is a Russian-based email service that is common in overseas scams aimed at obtaining personal information from targets.

While we cannot stop these messages from being sent we encourage each of our members to stay vigilant in ignoring such communications that claim to be associated with the Chamber. The Chamber of Commerce adheres to CASL spam regulations and all email communications will come from an email address that ends in greaterkwchamber.com. Any other emails claiming to be from or associated with the Chamber that come from another email address that does not end in that email address should be scrutinized, deleted, or sent straight to your spam folder.

If anyone has any additional issues with email spammers claiming to be with the Chamber please call us at 519-576-5000 or email us.
