Kitchener, ON – As it celebrates 140 years of serving the local business community, the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce is launching a year-long fundraising campaign with an ambitious and meaningful goal: raising $140,000 in support of local physician recruitment initiatives.
Running from January through December 2026, the campaign invites Chamber members, corporate partners, and the broader business community to play an active role in shaping the region’s long-term economic and community wellbeing. The funds raised will directly support efforts to attract and retain physicians, helping to ensure access to healthcare for a rapidly growing region.
“For 140 years, the Chamber has been a catalyst for growth, advocacy, and community leadership,” said Ian McLean, President & CEO, Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce. “This campaign is about more than celebrating a milestone. It’s about mobilizing our business community around a shared legacy investment that will benefit employers, employees, and families for generations.”
The campaign’s goal is both bold and attainable. With more than 1,400 Chamber member businesses, a collective effort of $100 per member would achieve the full $140,000 target.
At its core, the initiative underscores the interconnectedness of economic prosperity and healthcare access. A strong healthcare system supports workforce stability, talent attraction, and regional competitiveness.
“This is a milestone worth investing in,” added Jenna Petker, Director, Healthcare & Physician Recruitment. “With the support of our members and partners, we can turn a historic anniversary into a tangible outcome for our region.”
Businesses and individuals are encouraged to participate at a level that aligns with their capacity and commitment to community impact. Together, the campaign aims to demonstrate the power of collective action and the enduring leadership of the local business community.
