Boosting Business and Talent: GO Train Service Expands to Kitchener

The Greater KW Chamber fully supports the Ontario government for extending weekend GO Train trips at the Kitchener station starting on November 23, 2025. This is a major milestone for Waterloo Region and a first step toward more frequent trips along the line. The Ontario government also reached an Agreement-in-Principle with CN Rail to purchase land to construct dedicated GO tracks on the Kitchener Line, which marks a major milestone in the province’s plan to build faster transit between Kitchener and Toronto.

The Agreement-in-Principle coincides with additional GO train service that will be added to the Kitchener Line in November, including 18 new weekend trips between Bramalea GO and Union Station.

“Today, we’re taking two pivotal steps towards delivering two-way, all-day GO train service between Kitchener and Toronto,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, Minister of Transportation. “Under Premier Ford’s leadership, our government is delivering the largest transit expansion in North America to tackle gridlock, keep workers on the job and support economic growth.”

What does this mean?

The weekend trains are possible after CN Rail and Metrolinx reached an agreement to share the tracks. As part of the agreement-in-principle, 40 km of track will be added to the Kitchener line.

This expanded connectivity is a major win for Waterloo Region businesses and members of the Greater KW Chamber. Improved rail access means shorter commutes, stronger links to the Toronto market, and easier movement for workers, students, and visitors. For local employers, it enhances access to talent and opens new opportunities for collaboration and investment across the innovation corridor.

“The additional service being announced today marks significant progress for transit within the Toronto-Waterloo corridor. Our coalition of business, local governments, post-secondary institutions, and organizations has been working hard to bring two-way all-day service to our community. This has been a top priority for residents and businesses throughout Ontario. We appreciate the leadership of the Ford Government, with the support of our local MPPs, and we applaud this progress.”
