Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce
As many of you are aware, the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce has been working tirelessly on creating and maintaining the number of doctors in this community. With the launch of the new Medical Centre at The Boardwalk, we thought we’d shed light on Waterloo’s existing facilities and the opportunities for new physicians in the coming months.
Andrew Street Family Health Centre, 16 Andrew Street, Kitchener
A new FHO (Family Health Organization) associated with the Centre For Family Medicine (CFFM) one of our FHTs (Family Health Team). There are currently six young practitioners working there. There is room for six more. While not a FHT, they do have the mentorship and support of practitioners at the CFFM.
Northfield Medical Centre, 99 Northfield Drive East, Waterloo
An established FHO, with a number of family practitioners. They are looking to add a number of practitioners and are in discussions with regard to moving into The Boardwalk Medical Centre.
Mango Tree Family Health Team, 550 King Street East, Kitchener
A new Family Health Team established over a year ago in Guelph, is opening a site in Kitchener on King St. E. They are looking for an additional practitioner to join the FHT.
University of Waterloo Health Services, 200 University Avenue East, Waterloo
There are also opportunities at the University of Waterloo Health Services. They are expanding health care services beyond the student population to include spouses, partners and children of students. They are building a beautiful new facility to accommodate the larger practice.
The Medical Centre at The Boardwalk, 100 The Boardwalk, Ira Needles Blvd, Waterloo
Construction has started on an 80,000 sq. ft. medical facility that will house family practitioners, specialists, allied health care professionals, lab, imaging, pharmacy and other health care services. It will be a really exciting development for KW. The developer is working with established FHOs and there will be room for new practitioners to join their groups. The building will start to fill in the fall of 2013 and will officially open by January 2014.
Walk In Clinics – 385 Fairway Rd. S. Kitchener & 751 Victoria St. S., Kitchener
Urgent Care has two locations in Kitchener. The lead physician, Dr. Steven Charkow, is looking for practitioners to join their group.
Locum/Retiring Practitioners
Dr. Bret Schumilas is in a FHO. He is looking for a physician to take over his practice so that he can move to Niagara. Dr. Mary Wright practices with two other female physicians, they are looking for new grads wanting locums. Also she is looking to retire within the next year. Dr. John Meen is looking to retire in 2014. It is also thought that Dr. Richard Tiegs and Dr. Blaine Cruickshank might want to retire as well.
Hospital Practice Opportunities
There are also opportunities to practice at Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital.
